Today the doors close on the 75th edition of International Astronautical Congress (IAC) held in Milan, Italy. The International Astronautical Federation (IAF), in partnership with local hosts Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA), delivered another successful Congress which featured more than 250 exhibitors (incl. 30 national pavilions hosting over 300 companies) and a record 4,026 speakers from 96 countries. The 5-day event welcomed over 11,000 attendees.
The eyes of the world are now firmly on Australia, in less than 12 months’ time the 76th International Astronautical Congress is taking place in the country’s most iconic city, Sydney. Australia has hosted this important gathering twice before and is anticipating another incredible IAC 2025 Sydney. The local host Space Industry of Australia (SIAA), a core member of the national space community. Co-hosts will include New South Wales (NSW) Government and the Australian Space Agency, both major investors in the success of Australia’s space strategy.
Head of the Australian Space Agency, and newly elected Vice President of the IAF, Enrico Palermo, emphasized the importance of hosting an IAC in the region.
“I look forward to warmly welcoming our international space partners to Sydney. IAC 2025 is an opportunity to showcase Australia’s space ecosystem, as well as more deeply connect the global space community with the Indo-Pacific region.
Our region is filled with a dynamic mix of established and emerging space players, with much to offer the world. We also have other industries rich with transferable knowledge and innovative technologies that the space sector can draw from, as well as end users ready to benefit from space systems.
Strengthening these connections only serve to enhance our collective goal to improve life on Earth through space.”
The theme of IAC 2025 Sydney is “Sustainable Space: Resilient Earth.” This will form a foundation for critical discussions in the space industry across a variety of topics such as; space-based application for earth, sustainability space activities and supporting life beyond earth. Other fundamental areas of interest for IAC 2025 Sydney will be to act as a point of inspiration for the next generation of workers in the space community, to engage with a broad range of industries, and to educate the public about ‘why space matters’ on IAC’s open day.
SIAA’s Executive Chairman, Jeremy Hallett remarked, “We look forward to welcoming the global space industry to Sydney for IAC 2025. International visitors will not only engage with our vibrant Australia space sector but also the Indo-Pacific region which is brimming with opportunity.“
